Letter to the Barony; The drums and fires of War are quiet again

Pennsic was full of dichotomies. It was hot all day, but cool at night. There was much rain, but also long stretches of sunny, dry weather.

One thing for sure is that there were Skraels everywhere, and We certainly noticed. Skraels volunteered hundreds of hours to help make sure Pennsic ran smoothly. Perhaps it was that this year the Mayor was from Ealdormere, but it really seemed like everyone went all out this year.

We can’t possibly name everyone who helped out–from shifts at Troll, A&S Point, the Watch and DART carts, to marshaling and royalty support. But We saw it, and every time We ran into a Skrael pitching in, it warmed Our hearts. Thank You!!!! You all brought honour to this Barony, and We are so proud!.

We gave out two impromptu Carrots of Excellence at war. The first was to Lady Ilsebet for her work as Ealdormere’s Commissariat. She was out there every day, keeping the fighters and fencers hydrated and healthy on the field through some very hot battles and tournaments. She is most certainly deserving of recognition.

We also presented a Carrot to THL Emelote. Her Ladyship was Ealdormere’s sole representative at the A&S war point with her painted tarot card. She did both Our Barony and the Kingdom proud, and we hope she had fun holding her own among some pretty talented artisans.

We also held our first ever “Hoppy Hour” social during war week, with pretty good attendance given how busy this time is for all. We thought it was a fine evening and believe others did too. . We enjoyed having time to sit with Skraels at war to check in and visit. Thank you to Dame Helen and Lord Galfrid for helping Us host it at Skrael camp. We hope to do it again in the future at war.

Wrap up from Muster:

Just before all of the prep for Pennsic hit high gear, We were pleased to get ready for war at Baronial Muster, where We had what must have been a record number of archers. Archery is certainly healthy in the Barony right now! This pleases Us greatly.

For those who missed it, the following business was done during Court:

  • Bunny tails were presented to: Catlin also known as Bernice, Lady Ada Corbett & Ingram of Caldrithig, Collin of Caldrithig, and Runa Blesasdóttír.
  • Lord Maskatain was lauded as the archery tournament winner
  • HE Duncan was proclaimed Our Baronial archery champion
  • A Writ was issued for Sir Shahid to appear at Baronial Court at his earliest convenience.
  • THL Laurenz was presented with a Hare Valiant for his prowess and teaching. We also presented him with a Carrot of Excellence for his Pennsic surveyorship (thanks to a missive received from the Mayor of Pennsic, Duchess Dagmar).

In Service to the Barony,
