  The Elusive Keyhole Neckline

 Description: Hands on class to learn two methods to sew a keyhole neckline. Learn how to calculate a keyhole from measurements. Go home with a paper pattern for the neck of your choice. Bring sewing supplies, and the head and neck measurements of the neck of your choice. Contact the teacher for instructions on how to measure if desired

  Embroidery - Transferring Patterns

 Description: By special request. In this class learn how embroidery patterns were transferred in the middle ages and tricks you can use now. You will get the opportunity to play with different transfer techniques so consider bringing a simple design and some cloth.

  Introduction to Early Rus Clothing (or what is Xristina actually wearing!)

 Description: This is an introductory class on the clothing worn in the Kievan Rus period of Russian history with a focus on the description and construction of the basic shirt garment.

  Underwear - Persian Underclothing

 Description: Come and learn about the clothing that is next to your skin in the Persian Middle Ages. We will be reviewing the different types of clothing through the 13th to 16th century for both men and women. We also will be drafting up men's shorts and if time permitting, women's undershirts. (I have not decided if this will be a hands on class yet, as to actually make the shorts - maybe not, James is not sure he is available to help out.)

  Historic Beer in a Modern Context
 Teacher: Jim Clark
 Description: Learn the history of one of man's most important beverages, beer. Take an exciting juorny though the creation of beer and its evolution though history. Learn the differences of modern beer and historic beer manufacture in the 900-1600s. Learn about traditional brewing herbs and gruit ale. Learn about natural fermentation and its differences from innocultation and commercial yeast. An introduction to homebrewing will be given providing an broad overview of the process and each step along the way. Time permeting a breif overview of mead and home mead making will also be given.

 Description: Cecilia will teach 3 of her favourite dances that are danced in bassadance time (similar to waltz), one Burgundian, and two Italian. Beginners are welcome - steps will be called in English and taught as required.

  Finger Looping Cord

 Description: A Viking craft for making patterned narrow bands useful as seam and edge bindings on clothing. No tools needed, just yarn, an anchor point and your fingers. Come learn how to finger loop using 5 doubled strands of wool. No experience needed. All materials and instructions provided.

  Intro to Inkle Weaving - Making Scissor Pockets or Chatelaines (CLASS FULL)
 Teacher: Kjarvala Thorvalsdotter
 Description: Have you ever wondered what to do with an inkle loom? Have you ever wanted a particular band of trim and just can't find the colour combination you need? Narrow woven bands were used historically for many purposes, and although we cannot prove that the inkle loom is period, we know the fabrics it creates is. Come find out what happens when you add yarn to an inkle loom, change the shed and begin to create your own design on a narrow fabric! Learn to: Warp the loom; start and stop weaving; to weave and advance the warp, to create a slit in the warp, to do circular weaving (make a tube); and finishing in a fringe.

  Inkle Intermediate - Wool Garter with Dags
 Teacher: Kjarvala Thorvalsdotter
 Description: Tired of unsightly tights or slipping, falling down stockings? Solve the embarrassment of your Lord or Lady's sagging, lagging leggings with Handwoven garters with Dags that are based on garter #388 from a late 14th century deposit. If you can warp an Inkle loom and have all the belts you will ever need, branch out into a new and useful historical weaving. This is an adult or teen class, but you must be able to do basic weaving with an Inkle loom. This technique is slightly above a beginner class- basic knowledge will be assumed to be understood.

  Knitting Round Table/Discussion

 Description: An open discussion of all the things that vex us about knitting period pieces, what we love about knitting period items and anything in between. Bring the pieces you've finished that you want to show off, bring those that you have pulled out a dozen times, bring a picture of something you want to knit. What sort of challenges do you find in knitting period items? What are you ideas about documentation? Bring something to knit while we chat!

  Multicolour Lucet Cording
 Teacher: Lucie DuFresne
 Description: Lucets were used to make strong, non-elastic cords for laces, garters and drawstrings. Cords could be plain or fancy, silk, linen or wool. Come explore fancy cord making in more than one colour using a lucet. I have a collection of different historical lucets from Viking museum reproductions to Victorian bone dainties for you to try. All materials and instructions provided. Do bring your own lucet if you have one.

  What's That Weave - Investigating Archeological Textile Fragments (CLASS FULL)

 Description: This class will look at some loom-woven patterns dated from around the 4th-15th centuries AD/CE. Students will reproduce small samples of weaving patterns using flat ribbon taped to cardboard.

  In Persona Story Telling

 Description: Story telling was essential in the Middle Ages. It was not just entertainment, but the method by which the history, laws, and culture were passed on. It is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to add a medieval ambiance to an SCA event. Whether you envision yourself someday entertaining a whole feast hall, telling tales around a small camp fire, or just telling a story to one or two friends, come and explore story telling as your SCA persona.
