Combat Activities
Armoured Combat Pratice
Knights in shining armour! Armored combat in the SCA resembles medieval tournaments. Combatants face each other in single combat, or take part in large melee battles. Caldrithig hosts one weekly armoured combat practice on Wednesday evenings. During the summer months, weather permitting, practice may be moved outside.

Location:Somerset Community Centre, 250 Somerset St East, upstairs
Times: Every Wednesday, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Rapier Combat Practice
Rapier combat is a style of historical fencing practiced with steel reproduction swords. The primary focus is to study, replicate and compete with styles of rapier sword-fighting found during the Renaissance period, using reproduction steel swords similar to the ones used in that period and optionally a variety of off-hand offensive & defensive items (such as a buckler or a dagger).
Participants are encouraged to wear outfits that are historically appropriate for the historical sword fighting style they are reproducing, with the necessary exceptions for the modern protective equipment. Caldrithig practices can also include cut & thrust which is an advanced form that adds in percussive blows with the steel swords styles to allow for a wider range of historical combat.

Expect to see practices with knives and axes starting in the late Spring, continuing throughout the warmer months. If interested in participating, you should bring a camp chair, water, sunscreen, a sun hat, and bug spray. We have loaner knives and axes, and hope to introduce loaner spears soon.
