The Barony of Skraeling Althing is the branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) serving Eastern Ontario. We are the easternmost barony in the Kingdom of Ealdormere.
The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our society celebrates the best parts of the medieval world through the making and wearing of medieval clothes, cooking and eating medieval food, learning medieval skills such as archery and swordfighting, practicing various medieval arts such as blacksmithing, embroidery, and dance, and experiencing the medieval pageantry through tournaments and royal courts.
If you are new to the SCA and looking to get involved please visit our Newcomers page for some wonderful information and links. Our society is open to all people and is friendly for families. We invite you to stop and rest, have a look around our site, and get to know us and what we do. Be welcome, friends, and sit at our hearth. Hear our stories. Enjoy our hospitality and be merry. And if you like what you see, why not come out and meet us?
Upcoming events in the Barony of Skraeling Althing.
After much deliberation and taking the current state of the guidance from the Province of Ontario into account, Their Majesties, Their Highnesses, and the Privy Council have taken the step to extend the closure of Ealdormere until 31 July 2020.
Further, for the sake of safety there will be no camping events in 2020. Our camping events are primitive at the best of times, and gathering many people under less than ideal sanitary conditions even after things have started to relax seems like a bad idea.
We are hopeful that we can restart things in August with a celebration of Coronation for Their Majesties. With that said, Their Majesties and the Privy Council will revisit this at the beginning of July to see how things are looking, and to decide if an extension of the shutdown is warranted at that time.
