Letter to the Barony; Break the Belt of Winter

Greetings unto the busy populace of Skraeling Althing from Baron Shahid and Baroness Catherine.

Break the Belt of Winter brought us the first local tourney of the year. It was wonderful to see so many souls come out to Our Canton of Greyfells to welcome Her Majesty. The all-day potluck ensured we were all very well fed, and the variety of food-themed activities meant fun for all.

Outside there were two armoured combat tournaments, a beer tournament and a cookie tournament. Congratulations to the winners, Sir Baldric Leeman of Newcastle Emlyn and The Honourable Lord Edward of Flaming Sky. Inside, the Ealdormere Academy of Defence hosted a cadet’s prize tournament, which Baron Shahid passed with flying colours.

Break the Back of Winter has always been known for it’s A&S activities, and this year was no different. We would like to thank The Honourable Lady Constance of Caldrithig, The Honourable Lady Eluned verch Angor, Lady Alienor la fileuse and Lady Sorcha Kilmongan for bringing forth such excellent works at our first Baronial A&S Championship. The winner and our new champion is The Honourable Lady Eluned verch Angor, inching ahead of The Honourable Lady Constance of Caldrithig by just two points (out of a maximum score of 400). Truly a photo-finish result! We also hosted another Dirty Dozen Donation Derby, this year won by Lady Kaðlín Konálsdottir. As is traditional, there was also a blind A&S tournament with some very interesting entries. Congratulations to Duchess Dagmar Halvdan for her winning entry. There were also three recipe competitions: a cheese and mushroom pie, a capon in a citrus sauce, a fruit tart, a brew, and a mead. Congratulations to the winners, The Honourable Lord Giovanni Orseolo, Donna Eleanor de Grismonte, Baron Shahid, and Lord Eoin MacAlpen.

It was Our joy to witness Skraels receive recognition from the hands of Her Royal Majesty. Congratulations to Lady Jade Caldwell and Lord Eoin MacAlpen on receiving Awards of the Orion, and Gavin MacAidan on receiving an Award of the Maiden’s Heart. Wassail!

During court, We welcomed James the Tinker to the barony with a Bunny Tail. Welcome!

We always love hearing about the good things people are doing in this Barony. We would encourage anyone who feels a gentle is deserving of an award, either Kingdom or Baronial, to please write them in. Skraeling Althing has an online form here, and the Ealdormere form is here.

In Service,
Shahid and Catherine
Baron and Baroness of Skraeling Althing
