Letter to the Barony; Winter War and Break the Back of Winter

Greetings unto the well-travelled populace of Skraeling Althing from Baron and Baroness Shahid and Catherine.

We were very happy to see some of you make the long trek to Winter War, in the Shire of Trinovantia Nova. We were welcomed with the hospitality and friendliness Ealdormere is famous for. There, it was Our joy to witness Mistress AElfwyn et Langanwuda take the reigns as Unbelt Co-commander. We also wish to congratulate Lady Cai’tyn the Bold (also known as Kanina Mac’ Am Gilverdatter) on her Award of Arms. We were well pleased to see Mistress AElfwyn et Langanwuda, Lord Sven Gunnolfr Ragnaldson, and Lord Edward of Flaming Sky demonstrating the might of Skraeling Althing in the armoured combat melees, and Baroness Kersteken Janzdochtere for showing such prowess in the rapier combat lists. Also, a special thank you to Lord Edward of Flaming Sky for acting as entourage to His Highness, Prince Siegfried Brandboern, as well as ourselves. Wassail Skrael!

Break the Back of Winter brought us the first local tourney of the year. It was wonderful to see so many souls braving the weather to come out to Our Canton of Greyfells. The event staff went well above and beyond with a Roman theme – from the dishes at feast to the entertainments. I do believe this is the first time an autocrat has imported an elephant for Our entertainment! Thank you to everyone who embraced the theme and joined in the fun. Ave!

We were inspired by such prowess in armored and rapier combat, and in the arts & sciences. Congratulations to the all of the victors:

  • The Honourable Lord Varakii Varenko Vikovitch for armoured combat
  • The Honourable Lord Lars Eriksson for rapier combat
  • Baron Giovanni de Enzinas for arts & sciences (intermediate)
  • Lady Jéhanne de Bretagne for arts & sciences (beginner)
  • Lady Kaðlín Konálldottir for largesse in the dirty dozen donation derby (4D) tourney

I would particularly like to thank all of the artisans who donated largesse to the 4D tourney. Your generosity was inspiring. We will be presenting the largesse earmarked for Kingdom to Their Majesties at Late Winter Shoot.

For those who were unable to attend, a gallery of the entries is available here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153942268405111.1073741827.686655110&type=1&l=f84bbe019f

We look forward to seeing many of you at Late Winter Shoot on March 22nd in the Canton of Petrea Thule, and the weekend after at Spring A&S in the Barony of Ben Dunfirth.

We always love hearing about the good things people are doing in this Barony. We would encourage anyone who feels a gentle is deserving of an award, either Kingdom or Baronial, to please write them in. Skraeling Althing has an online form here, and the Ealdormere form is here.

In Service,
Shahid and Catherine
